Bayer - Dramaturgy Project

Tips From Your Librarian

Hello Advanced Theatre Students!

This guide will be a great resource for you in the creation of your dramaturgy packet.  Please take note of the recommendations below when beginning your research.

Scrible

  • Use Scrible to keep track of your sources, digitally annotate your sources, and cite your sources. It perfectly formats your works cited page and will autocite your sources - just check them for accuracy.
  • Use the Scrible tutorials below in order to learn how to use this tool.  It's a great way to stay organized while researching.  I do apologize that the tutorials were created just before the user interface was updated, so the look is a little different, but the functionality is the same.

Library Databases

  • Use the recommended library databases for this project.  They will make your life easier!
  • Use Bloom's Literature for info on your play and playwright.
  • Use the History databases for the historical context of your play, timeline, and for biographical information on your playwright and characters (if real).
  • Use the periodicals available to you to find criticism and information on recent productions - definitely be sure to sign up for the New York Times.
  • Find information on social customs, allusions, mythology etc. from the general High School database, as well as the English and History databases.
  • Be sure to search just using keywords and phrases - library databases will not return quality results if you type a full question in the search box.
  • You will need a password for these databases if you are not in the building.  Click the red password button to access passwords.

Library Catalog

  • Search for a book on your playwright, time period, characters, etc. using the Destiny Library Catalog.

Further Research Help

  • Look at the drop down menu of research help on this LibGuide.
  • You will see help with evaluating sources.  I highly recommend you do the EdPuzzle on lateral reading before doing any Google searching.
  • You will also see help with both MLA and APA citations.
