Heidkamp - Freshman Research Project - My Voice

What is a Database?

What makes the library's databases trustworthy sources of information?

  • A collection of nonfiction materials including newspaper articles, websites, primary sources, images, etc.
  • Information in databases is collected and maintained by professional researchers.
  • Databases for OPRF are chosen by librarians with your research assignments in mind.
  • Databases are available only through the school's website (even the New York Times), and most need a password off-campus.
  • Information in databases may not be freely available on the internet.
  • Databases are searchable and organized by subject.
